Sandra Corcoran is our hero!

Below is the press release from HiQ. Sadly our Chairman didn't win but we are thrilled she got the recognition she deserves.

SELFLESS IVER HERO PRAISED AT NATIONAL AWARD CEREMONY!

A selfless ‘hero’ from Iver Heath has been praised by Olympic legend Sally Gunnell after narrowly missing out on winning a prestigious UK community award.

Sandra Corcoran, one of the longest serving members of Iver Heath’s community drama club, was one of 10 shortlisted people to win the coveted HiQ Hero accolade from the respected fast fit network, thanks to years of tireless work in her community.

She attended the final award ceremony in Birmingham where she was given a huge ovation, and some words of praise from Barcelona gold medalist Sally Gunnell.

Sally said: “The HiQ Local Hero campaign set out with the aim of unearthing a number of selfless people in local communities up and down the country, who work tirelessly for others and are not always recognised and appreciated for their efforts.

“As I look at Sandra Corcoran, it is safe to say that it has well and truly achieved its objective, so congratulations again.

“I have been privileged to receive recognition for my success on the athletics track, and it is wonderful to now be able to champion the work of Sandra, in a project that I have taken to my heart.

“You only narrowly missed out on the overall award but the work you have done – and continue to do – is just wonderful and I’m thrilled to be able to see you today and congratulate you.”

Runner- up Sandra Corcoran, whose nearest HiQ branch is in Slough on Bath Road, said: “It has been such a fantastic day and one I will never forget. Meeting the other finalists was a great pleasure, they are all so inspirational and I couldn’t believe I was there beside them.

“It was a shock to even have been selected so I’d like to thank everyone who voted.”

HiQ’s retail director Peter Tye said: “We are all delighted for Sandra. When we launched this campaign we wanted to honour the selfless people in our society who give so much time and energy for worthwhile causes, yet never wish for a thing in return.

“Sandra embodied this and we were all delighted to see her here.

“Our HiQ Hero campaign was huge for us and we were staggered by the amount of entries and the quality of those that entered.

“It has helped us position the HiQ fast fit network as a network of trust, with community heroes at each of our 150 centres nationwide.”

Help make Sandra our HiQ Hero!!

As you may of seen in today’s Slough Observer or the Bucks Advertiser, I nominated Sandra for a HiQ Hero Award – and she’s made it through to the grand national final!

Sandra is one of the biggest unsung heros of our community. For many years she directed pantomimes with our community group. She ran a voluntary day care centre for elderly of Iver Heath, despite being older than many of the members, and even ran a mobility group for people of all disabilities in Iver and Iver Heath. Sadly she has had to reduce her involvement due to ill health but she still plays vital roles in all these groups – in the drama club she handles insurance, bookings, licenses, banking and the box office to name a few.

The winner gets £500 and £5,000 towards their local causes (Mead House Day Care, Ivers Mobility and Iver Heath Drama Club)

The link to vote for her is : http://www.hiqonline.co.uk/hiqHeroes/nominees/Sandra_Corcoran/

Bugsy Malone's Big Prize Draw and Group discounts!

BUGSY MALONE is just weeks away from hitting the stage here in Iver Heath. Orginally filmed at Pinewood Studios, our sponsors, in 1976 it is coming back to its home of Iver Heath.

To help cover the high costs of producing a musical, we have organised a BUGSY FUNDRAISING DRAW. Prizes include over £100 in high street vouchers including Argos and a brand new BOSCH jigsaw kindly donated by the Power Tool Training Department. The draw is a licensed by South Bucks District Council and all profits will go towards covering the costumes and licenses for BUGSY MALONE.

Recently to raise money we held a fundraising gala called TEMPO THROUGH TIME in which West End professionals Katie Healy (pictured) and Vicci Mitchell-Luker produced a great show  which was presented by upcoming comedian Rob Chambers (pictured). Club Member and 'Tallulah', Claire Freeman (20) said "Its was great fun and feature some amazing talent from local youngsters aswell as the professionals!" The totals are still being counted but we believe we have raised over £100 which we will be spending on costume and a live band for BUGSY MALONE.

Bugsy Malone is a brilliant family show, so why not come on down! A table is just £80 (thats a saving of £20) and includes your chocolate cigars! You can buy tickets for the draw on the night and there is a nightly competition for the best dressed audience member. There are also group discounts for groups and societies like W.I, Scouts ect.

(Discounted tickets must be pre-paid by 21st May)

For more information please email us and get our newsletter, just click here! Or you can call our box office on 01753 652 616.

PRESS RELEASE: Tempo Through Time

BUGSY MALONE is the summer show hitting the stage of the Iver Heath Village Hall this June but due to spiralling costs, the IVER HEATH DRAMA CLUB is doing all it can to raise money to help fund the show and save this 60 year old corner stone of the community.

The show will be presented by local comedian Rob Chambers and it is being produced by West End professionals Vicci Mitchell-Luker and Katie Healy and the show will include musical hits ranging from 'Queen'' to musical masterpieces like 'The Rhythm of Life'.

Terry Sharp, Director of Bugsy Malone, said "Tempo Through Time is a great night out and it is our biggest chance of helping pay some of the growing costs."

The club, which was in serious finacial difficulty about three years ago is currently in a healthy situation but without a good audience the club cannot afford to pay the bills.

Further information and images and video are on facebook.

Last year's fundraising show, Variety Knights, rasied vital funds to help offset costs like rent and licenses.

The club, who is currently supported by Pinewood Studios and South Bucks District Council are funded entirely by ticket sales, donations and a £1 per week membership fee.
Tickets for BUGSY MALONE and Bugsy's Fundraising Raffle are now on sale - via the box  office on 01753 652 616 or you can buy at the fundraising gala. Doors open at 5:30pm and tickets are available on the door.

Bugsy's Grandslam gets Professional Donations!

The Iver Heath Drama Club is pleased to announce that two members of the community have come forward to donate their time and efforts to Bugsy Malone. Please see our previous post, as we still need your help!

Vicci Mitchell-Luker is a professional vocal and dramatics coach. Based in West London she has a well established reputation in musical theatre and the West End. Vicci, was a great help in musically preparing for our last production, Sleeping Beauty and is the Musical Director for Bugsy Malone. She is donating her time free of charge - saving the club over £1000. Vicci said "There is a great talent among this group doing so much for the community."

Katie Healy is also donating her time free of charge. The professional choreographer, who despite only being 22 is well established in the dance and drama industry has also committed to the show as Bugsy Malone's Choreographer.

Bugsy Malone is very different to anything done in the club's recent past and due to increasing rent and high license fees - Bugsy needs all the help and donations it can. Terry Sharp, Director, said "Its a major challenge for a small community project like us but if we can get even more local businesses and people on board I know we can do it.

Bugsy Malone is opening this June 2010 with 5 shows during the half term. Based at the Iver Heath New Village Hall, tickets are now available on 01753 652 616 or at our website, www.ihdc.co.uk.

The GrandSlam needs your help!

Please read! We need your help! Conact me by email and lets see if your PR/Corperate Team will help. Even a raffle prize or offering to put up/distribute flyers is fantastic :) Thank you.

Please — we need your help.

We are a not-for-profit community group, run by volunteers such as myself, and survives completely upon ticket sales, donations and a £1 a week membership fee. We have over 60 members aged between 7 and 80 years.

We have just finished Sleeping Beauty, which was a great success however our next production is something completely different to anything we have done before.

Bugsy Malone is a cross between a musical and a play and so far has been fantastic to see local professionals (choreographers & a vocal coach) donate time and money to our group however we are finding funding and publicity a real concern.

I am writing to you for advice and help.

We have been very lucky to receive donations from Pinewood Studios and South Bucks District Council but with increasing rent costs and license fees, this community needs you.

Thank you for your time so far and I look forward to hearing you from soon.

Matt Streuli

Publicity Officer & 'Fat Sam', Bugsy Malone

I am writing to you asking for help - about our small community group.

Sleeping Beauty's Smashing Success

Sleeping Beauty was a big hit with over 300 people supporting the pantomime over five shows. Zoe Streuli, a local Nurse and mother, said “What a vast improvement; year on year. Well worth it!”

The pantomime was a fun filled show which featured a giant spider and a guest appearance by The Stig. Iver Heath Drama Club is run by volunteers which survives on donations and from ticket sales. The profit made from the pantomime will help pay high costs like rent and insurance plus contribute towards their next exciting show this June.

Claire Freeman, Co-Director of the show and local student, 20, said “There was a fantastic buzz of energy by everyone, especially those who tire away behind the scenes. We’ve had great support from our audiences too – and I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all. Its magical!”

The club’s next production, Bugsy Malone, this the club’s first serious musical, is looking to be the biggest and best production yet as all members of the community, including professional vocal coaches and a west-end choreographer lend their energy and time.

The club is always open to new members, of all ages, and meets every Wednesday at the Iver Heath New Village Hall. Further information and tickets is available via www.ihdc.co.uk and their Box Office on 01753 652 616
